What I offer

Given my education and personal background, I can offer a variety of services in the area of makreting, management an other creative areas. My intentions are to make the best use of the things I have learned to help different projects grow and improve. I truly believe that there exists a wide range of different situations where I could be of benefit, whether you need an original set of photos, a new business direction or wish to creatively enrich the production of your film.

My philosophy behind work is to be versatile, provide quality results and never stop learning. In todays ever changing environment, I feel that there is a need for reliable, well rounded people who take a human approach, remain on top of things and navigate through multiple disciplines.

Photography & Film

  • Film photography

    - Give your cause a unique look with film. My final price will vary upon film stock and scope of project. I can shoot in a variety of environments, both indoor and outdoo, day and night and provide wide range of unique styles. As a rough guide, 1 roll of film costs about 30 euro on average (stock, dev + scan) + my labour costs (20 euro an hour). Most small once off projetcs only require 2-3 rolls of film. This is really just a rough estimate however and individual conditions can always be agreed.

  • Location scouting

    - I currently maintain a large personal database of a variety of locations in both Czech Republic and Ireland (mainly the southwest region). I am not entirely limited by style, however I do focus more on different retro environments and places of natural beauty. I am willing to share my knowledge of locations to help filmmakers add character to their films withing these regions. I am also fluent in both Czech and English so I can communicate any necessary shooting permits.

  • Equipment rental

    - I have gathered a range of different unique equipment that can be used for photography or videography. I have a collection of different vintage "legacy" lighting, ranging from SOX (low pressure sodium lights used as typical street lighting in the UK and Ireland with monochrome yellow light) to SON (high pressure sodium), fluorescent and incandescent lighting. I also have a selection of retro M42 mount lenses, a large cassette VHS camera and other things. Feel free to contact me to discuss any applications and prices. My full list of equipment is available here

Audio

  • Podcast production

    - I currently offer podcast production in Brno including recording and professional mastering. Recording using high quality shure SM7B microphones can be done at several locations in Brno (including locations of your choice) depending on your travel and aesthethic needs. My price per episode is 2500czk/100euro.

  • Audio mastering

    - Make your audio sound professional before release. As part of my role at the label, I have invested time into learning professional mastering with pro mastering software, mastering hundreds of podcasts for our college studio as well as tracks for our music artists. Both music and spoken word greatly benefit from adapting correct loudness, dynamics, stereo and frequency balance.  I charge 500czk/20euro per hour.

Photography

My photography

Since 2020, I have been shooting on 35mm film using mainly old 1970s equipment and creating several curated projects. Most of my work centers around documentary photography, focusing on capturing and preserving environments that I encounter in a structured manner.

I have spent most of my time documenting scenes in the Czech Republic while in college, along with some work in Ireland. I started off documenting the relics and aftermath of the socialist era in Czech Republic along with its lasting impacts on the country (Rozvoj X), moving into extensively documenting small Czech local stores, often tied to the vietnamese community (Neon Wind) all the way to shooting at night and documenting Brno city as part of my short film project N98 - Sodium Rider.
Apart from these projects, I have several new "candidates" for future creative and documentary projetcs which I am still developing. These include documenting Limerick City in Ireland, documenting the former Soviet military area VVP Ralsko and it's unique culture of "explorers", and a yet untitled series of photographs documenting humanity's industrial past.

I have also been at hand to take photos for different projects as part of my work for Blowout Records, taking artist portraits and promo photography among other things. In general I am just usually available with my camera which has also led me to take photos of nature while out and about.

How I shoot

As mentioned, all of my work is currently shot on 35mm photographic film. I do not even own a digital camera other than my phone, because most "good" models were too expensive for me when I started out shooting in 2020. Film prices have gone up drastically since then, making it much harder to shoot, but I still continue to do so as it's a medium to which I am used to at this stage.

I shoot on both black and white and colour films including slide film. I currently use two film cameras, my 1977 Zenit-E and my Canon EOS 1N along with a selection of mainly 1970s fully manual lenses. My choice of lenses was really just out of financial practicality as old M42 mount glass is very cheap. To achieve a lot of the effects and character in my work, I use different filters, usually colour conversion filters, ND and polarising filters and cross screen filters. I have also started shooting using a tripod often as it allows for smaller aperture and longer exposure times during a lot of conditions, not just nighttime.

Contrary to some documentarists, I do allow a certain dramatic character "shine through" through and try and not only capture the environments "as they are" but also how I felt about them - something almost unavoidable in any case but especially so when shooting on film, which in iteslf leans into a certain exaggerated character. My philosophy behind my approach is that firstly; there are plenty of digital shooters documenting the precise nature of the world around us already (often overdoing it), and secondly; character is what allows stories to be told and shared, whats adds emotions that people inherently need to understand context. I could have just taken these images on my phone and been more "accurate", without the colour casts, halation, and softness of old lenses, but the images would also have no soul to them.

If you are interested in how I achieve any photographs similar to mine or any practical effects, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to share my knowledge. I consider film a wonderful medium that deserves to be kept alive.
